I learnt about the fate of this park from a neighbour.
Since the close of nominations I have learnt more about the history of this parcel of land from Lambros Tapinos, current South Ward councillor.
This parcel of land is a great example of how public entities like Melbourne Water and Vic Track are mandated by the State Government to dispose of “surplus” land and maximise their gain.
Unfortunately this just cost-shifts from one agency to another as local councils are forced to foot enormous bills to effectively buy-back public land.
These public lands belong to the people of Victoria. Residents must demand that the State Government stop this inequitable practice.
Moreland Council must be more assertive in achieving fair outcomes for residents.
