Tim sent these questions to all South Ward candidates, and I think they’re good questions, so I will answer them.

 

01 – If you had been on council June 12th 2019 how would you of voted for the PTV Substation location – Reynard Street or Shore Reserve? 

Sorry Tim, I’m not properly across that one. Pass.

02 – If you had been on council March 25th 2020 how would you of voted for parking restrictions – for or against?

I am in favour of a more comprehensive permit system in Moreland that allocates residents and business users parking and takes account of the various planning zones around Moreland. However, the goal of a parking scheme is not to unduly penalise people for having cars but to ensure ” a fair share”. I am not against policies that favour more sustainable transport options, but there are many workers and families who need their vehicles.

03 – Do you think political parties should be involved in local government? Why or why not?

While I am an independent candidate, I have no argument against political parties running endorsed and declared candidates.

04 – Thoughts on Moreland Council making Design Excellence Scorecard permanent?

There are a myriad of different “scorecards” in building and planning such as BESS, Green Building, Passivehaus or Energy Star ratings. The issue here is removing residents right to object. This is totally unacceptable.

05 – Your vision for public transport in Moreland is what?

That the State Government funds it properly to ensure a convenient, interconnected network.

06 – What role should Moreland Council play in helping local business recover post Covid-19?

07 – What can Moreland Council do to assist hospitality as Covid-19 restrictions ease?

Rapidly implement the State Government’s recommendations around outdoor dining. And especially not waste restaurants and residents time by encouraging them to set-up petitions.

08 – What do you think Moreland Council does well?

Writing lots of nice policies and strategies.

09 – What do you think Moreland Council does badly?

Implementing all those policies and strategies.

In some areas, community consultation can be fantastic, but usually, it’s poor. While Moreland on paper is one of the most progressive Councils, if you walk the streets you would be hard-pressed to see this in practice.
