It’s fantastic to see the Herald Sun reaching out to local government candidates. I didn’t get them a video by deadline, but here are the answers to their questions.
-What are the three key issues impacting your council?
1. Merri-bek has experienced one of the highest rates of new development in Victoria and is thought to have the largest Planning Department in Victoria. With the State Government making development less regulated across the state, what impact will that have on infrastructure already feeling the pressure?
2. Merri-bek needs better open space, better pedestrian amenity and non-car transport, and improved basic civic infrastructure. We have a host of strategies, but the reality is not meeting the rhetoric.
3. Maternal health, childcare, aged care services and other community services are still critical in amongst Brunswick’s hipster highrise.
-Do you have any political party affiliations or memberships? If so, what are they?
No, none
-Have you ever been a member of a political party or union? If so, what and when?
I have never been a member of a political party. I have been a member of the relevant unions when I have worked in higher education, the state government and Telstra.
-Do you live in the ward you are running in?
Yes
-Please provide a 30-second video, shot vertically, pitching why people should vote for you.
I’ll have to owe you this one. I am a local with a long history of community involvement. I am a full-time worker and parent, so getting a video done by deadline was not possible.
