Friends of Merri Creek Candidate Questionnaire

I support ongoing revegetation work along these catchments, and others, in the Merri-bek and boundary areas. Merri Creek is fortunate in the work it has done over a long period of time to enjoy a great deal of recognition in Council strategies and actions.
I am one of 3 people in Brunswick Communities for Nature which has been growing and distributing indigenous plants for gardens, nature strips and all green open space, for the last 10 years.
One of my core concerns is validating the myriad of existing strategies relating to open space, biodiversity and clean air and water. Are we implementing these strategies? Are they successful? How do we measure this? What renewal is needed?
My personal priority is ensuring greater “joined up” biodiversity in public and private areas to support more broad-based biodiversity. Weed control must be undertaken, agreed and coordinated on a statewide level at least, especially along waterways. Local planning frameworks are under threat as the state government acts rapidly to prioritise speed of new housing provision.
