1.     What do you see as the major opportunities and challenges in shaping more liveable apartment communities in Merri-bek City? [max 50 words]

One of the biggest forthcoming challenges is the State Government planning changes which “fast track” development and takes planning out of the hands of Local Government. Brunswick has been at the forefront of increased housing density for 20 years and it’s taken a lot of effort with mixed outcomes. We likely see even more pressure on open space, transport and services. Merri-bek was at the forefront of setting minimum apartment standards but it is hard to see Council – and residents – having sufficient say in the future.

2.  What, for you, characterises a great street? [max 50 words]

Safety, civic pride, green open space, maintained footpaths, signage, etc. diverse architecture and people and great strip shopping, make a great Brunswick street.

3.  Do you have a view on the proposed elevated rail and station location that has recently been released for public engagement? [max 50 words]

I am bitterly disappointed but not surprised that the State Government’s main goal is cost-cutting for the Brunswick Skyrail. Not joining the two elevated parts of the line is also perplexing while reducing the number of stations is infuriating.

4. What’s your favourite thing about Bulleke-bek Ward, and what do you love about it? [max 50 words]

I’ve lived in Brunswick since 2002. I’m raising my family here and have social networks from my mother’s group, my kids’ kindergarten and schooling, and my work on Brunswick Communities for Nature. My husband is a weekend musician and plays at local venues. While this is a progressive community, we could do better when I look at our local infrastructure.
