Pet ownership plays an incredibly important role in fostering peoples’ emotional and social wellbeing. Moreland rightly has many places where dog owners can exercise and enjoy their dog.
Council has clearly defined and publicised guidelines for walking dogs including a list of off-leash parks and rules for managing dog’s behaviour off-leash.
Most councils require dog owners to remove and dispose of dog poo. However, Moreland’s is not promoted on their website or in all parks and streets. See the Victorian Litter Association’s Litter Prevention Kit for more.
Council should better promote it’s local law:
39. Dog excrement
- Every person who is in a public place and for the time being has care of a dog must:
- carry and produce upon demand by an Authorised Officer, the means of picking up and removing any faeces that may be deposited by the dog; and
- remove and hygienically dispose of faeces deposited on or in a public place by the dog.
