One of my key goals in running this election is to support the participation of women in public life.

There are 5 women candidates running and am pleased to offer my support to them all.

Pauline Galvin is running with Sue Bolton Socialist Alliance. Sue has a proven track record on Council in advocating for the community and protecting residents rights in development.

Helen Breier is an ALP candidate with deep roots in the community.

Nahui Jimenez is a young woman activist committed to a wide range of social justice issues.

Rachel Payne is a young woman from the Reason party. Fiona Patten from Reason represents Moreland in the Northern Metropolitan Region (Victorian upper house).

Neither the ALP nor Greens pre-selected women candidates in “winnable” positions for South Ward. Women of South Ward deserve better from the major parties.

Women are not only the hardest hit by this pandemic, they are also the backbone of recovery in communities. Putting women and girls at the centre of economies will fundamentally drive better and more sustainable development outcomes for all, support a more rapid recovery, and place the world back on a footing to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
